MiraVista Recognizes National Naloxone Awareness Day

HOLYOKE — For Friday, June 6, National Naloxone Awareness Day, MiraVista Behavioral Health Center is raising awareness of the life-saving power of naloxone (better known by its brand name, Narcan) and reminding the community that free Narcan is available at its Holyoke campus, and that effective, compassionate treatment options for opioid use disorder and co-occurring mental health conditions are always within reach.

Naloxone is a medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose when used quickly and correctly. Easy to use and available to the public, Narcan saves lives — and MiraVista is proud to make it more accessible.

“We recognize that substance use and mental health challenges often go hand-in-hand,” said Kim Lee, chief of Creative Strategy and Development at MiraVista. “That’s why our approach is comprehensive and patient-centered, offering same-day access to care and meeting people where they are on their journey.”

Naloxone is a lifesaving medication that reverses an opioid overdose and is easy to use. By making Narcan available for free, MiraVista aims to empower individuals, families, and community members to take an active role in preventing overdose deaths.

MiraVista’s services include an Opioid Treatment Program with daily support and medication-assisted treatment, intensive outpatient programming focused on recovery and relapse prevention, one-on-one counseling for personalized care, and safe medical detox for individuals with a primary diagnosis of mental illness and co-occurring substance use.

In addition, a free educational video on the proper use of Narcan, presented by MiraVista nurse Cindy Chaplin, is available on the MiraVista website (click here).

Anyone can walk into MiraVista’s lobby at 1233 Main St. in Holyoke and request a free two-dose box of Narcan. Individuals will be asked to provide just a few brief pieces of information before walking away with a life-saving resource. No insurance or ID is required.

On National Naloxone Awareness Day, MiraVista reaffirms its commitment to removing barriers to care and equipping the community with tools to save lives. To learn more about MiraVista’s treatment options, call (413) 264-3042 or visit www.miravistbhc.care.
