Morton CEO To Chair MHA Board
BURLINGTON, Mass. – Thomas Porter, president and CEO of Taunton’s Morton Hospital, was elected chairman of the Mass. Hospital Association during the group’s annual meeting in June.
Porter’s one-year term at the helm of the MHA’s board comes at a challenging time for health care.
“Hospitals are struggling with government cutbacks and rising costs,” said Mark R. Tolosky, president of Baystate Medical Center and Porter’s immediate predecessor. “We worked hard to keep hospital’s afloat and get fairer treatment from the state in this year’s budget, but our focus is now on long-term reform to strengthen the health care safety net. Tom commands great respect, and his commitment to quality patient care is unsurpassed. Having worked side-by-side with him, I know he can take us where we need to go.”
Porter has been president of Morton Hospital for 16 years, and previously held other administrative roles there.
The other MHA officers elected are: Chair-elect Jeanette Clough, president and CEO of Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge; Treasurer David Barrett, M.D., CEO of the Lahey Clinic in Burlington; and Secretary Dan Moen, CEO of Heywood Hospital in Gardner.
