‘Navigating Community Safety’ Conversation to Be Held on Dec. 3

GREAT BARRINGTON — The South Berkshire Community Health Coalition, a program of local youth empowerment organization Railroad Street Youth Project, in partnership with Translate Gender, will present “Navigating Community Safety” at Berkshire South Regional Community Center on Wednesday, Dec. 3 from 6 to 8 p.m.

With an unprecedented number of anti-LGBTQ bills across the county and a political climate that is targeting the safety and autonomy of communities — especially trans, non-binary, and gender-expansive people — this community conversation and presentation will explore how to safeguard LGBTQIA+ loved ones in this uncertain time. Attendees will gain knowledge and skills to add to their toolboxes, so all feel equipped to move forward together.

Team members from the trans-led community organization Translate Gender will present on the work they do to support and affirm trans, non-binary, and gender-expansive youth, their families, and the larger community, as well as what individuals can do to fortify resources and plug in.

Created in 2006, Translate Gender works to build Western Mass. communities that are more equitable and just for trans and gender-creative individuals, especially youth. This work is done together with family members and caregivers, nonprofit partners, and other individuals dedicated to the work of gender justice.
