OneHolyoke CDC, Homework House to Host COVID Freedom Walk & Roll 5K
HOLYOKE — OneHolyoke CDC has partnered with Homework House and several other Holyoke community organizations to host the COVID Freedom Walk & Roll 5K on Saturday, Aug. 28 from 10 a.m. to noon, with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. The purpose of the 5K is to celebrate the progress Holyoke has made to be free from COVID-19, and information and resources will be available about COVID safety, including an on-site vaccine clinic for those who would like to get their shot.
The event will bring together members of the community to walk or roll (wheelchair, bicycle, or stroller) along a 5K route through Holyoke, beginning at the intersection of Race, Main, and Canal streets and ending at Holyoke Craft Beer at 164 Race St.
Proceeds from the 5K registrations and donations will benefit OneHolyoke CDC and Homework House in their work to support children and families in Holyoke. To sign up to walk or roll, visit go.rallyup.com/participar5k2021. Registration is $10 for adults or $15 per couple. Children under age 17 are free. Those who don’t pre-register can also sign up on site.
The event aims to be accessible to all, and those who are unable to pay the registration fee can enter the code DONAR on the payment page to receive free registration. Walk/roll participants can also help raise funds by having friends and colleagues sponsor them with additional donations.
Those who are not able to participate in the COVID Freedom Walk & Roll 5K can still support the event by making a donation at go.rallyup.com/caminar5k2021 or by texting ‘Caminar5K2021’ to (855) 202-2100 to get a link to donate. Corporate and business sponsorships are also welcome.
Family-friendly activities will also be part of the 5K event, including a Holyoke history scavenger hunt along the route and a costume contest with the chance to win prizes. Five water stations will also be set up along the route.
