Two years ago, Turners Falls High School staff learned that Chrysler Corporation was donating GEM cars to charitable organizations. The school sent in a request for two cars, and received 15.  The GM school board then had the task of finding homes for 13 extra cars. News of the donation and the search for ‘homes’ for the GEMs reached Joe Zukowski, manager of FMC’s security department; Zukowski contacted Rob Morrill, principal of Turners Falls High School, stating his interest in obtaining a car for FMC.

Auxiliary Force

Franklin Medical Center’s Board of Organized Work (BOOW) has awarded 10 scholarships, totaling $5800, to assist students who wish to further their education in health care fields.  The awards were presented during a reception at the hospital on Tuesday, May 30. This year’s scholarship winners include four FMC employees, a Baystate Health Ambulance EMT, four children of employees, and a Greenfield Community College nursing student. The BOOW, a volunteer auxiliary organization, established the Annie S. Barclay Scholarship Fund in 1962 to help FMC employees, members of their families, and relatives of BOOW members further their education in health care fields. Grants provide students pursuing education on the undergraduate, graduate and paraprofessional levels.  Over the years, the BOOW has awarded over $100,000 in scholarship money.
