Making a Difference
Clara Thatcher, a Hampshire Regional High School student, recently presented a check for $5,605 to the Cooley Dickinson Hospital (CDH) Diabetes Center, which teaches those living with diabetes how to best manage their health through exercise, nutrition, medications, and follow-up care. Thatcher’s father, Charles Thatcher, passed away in 2009 from complications with diabetes. In his memory, Clara, along with her sister, Kayla, and her mother, Mandy Caputo, established the Charles’ Angels Walk for Diabetes Education fund-raiser. The event was held on June 7 at Hampshire Regional High School. Quick Thinking
Benjamin Edwards, a senior at Westfield High School, worked 30 hours a week this summer in the Junior Volunteer program at Noble Hospital, with roles including materials management, delivering mail, and greeting visitors. One day in July, he was leaving his volunteer shift and saw a man outside the hospital with a prosthetic leg, who had fallen down the front steps. Some nursing students were helping him, but Edwards ran inside to the switchboard and called a code gray, the internal code for someone needing medical attention, which helped the man get the attention he needed. Noble recognized Edwards for his quick, calm reaction to an emergency.
Fore! … a Good Cause
