Porchlight VNA/Home Care Given Green Light for Move in Time Program
LEE — Porchlight VNA/Home Care will begin serving the Berkshires with its falls-prevention program, Move in Time, with the support of a grant from the Central Berkshire Fund of the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation.
The grant in the amount of $6,000 was awarded to engage seniors living in the hilltowns of Western Mass. in 2016. The communities included in the grant are Becket, Cummington, Dalton, Hinsdale, Peru, Washington, and Windsor.
Through a competitive process, Porchlight’s program was chosen for closely meeting the guidelines and mission of the Central Berkshire Fund with its focus on healthcare in the Berkshires.
Move in Time was co-created by Lynn Proulx, Porchlight’s certified occupational therapist and director of Rehabilitation Services. She will lead the six-week course once a week with the same group of seniors participating throughout the entire series. Cumulative learning and activities achieve skills in balance, risk assessment, and strengthening to prevent falls.
Falls have become an increasingly deadly issue for the aging population in the U.S., including the Berkshires. Move in Time aims to eliminate risk factors for falls and empower seniors to remain independent and lead fulfilling lives.
