Author Sakina Ibrahim to Offer Parent-child Workshop on Oct. 3
AMHERST — Author and dance educator Sakina Ibrahim will facilitate a workshop for parents and their children on Saturday, Oct. 3, using her acclaimed book Big Words to Little Me. The event, to be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bridge Family Resource Center, 101 University Dr., Amherst, is sponsored by Clinical & Support Options Inc.
The workshop will serve as a creative approach to self-development and communication that focuses on addressing personal and collective challenges in order to discover the power of choice and determination. Using movement, the dramatic arts, and Ibrahim’s book, each parent and child are guided towards methods of empowerment, self-discovery, and bonding. Together, participants will address fear and begin a journey of goal setting through dialogue, discussion, and creative expression.
Ibrahim received her bachelor’s degree in fine arts from University of the Arts in Philadelphia, and her master’s degree in fine arts from the University of California, Irvine. She has received the Dance Outreach, Excellence in Performance Award and the Medici Award.
This workshop is free, but space is limited. Lunch will be provided from 1 to 2 p.m. Pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, call Kristal Cleaver, director of the Bridge Family Resource Center, at (413) 549-0470.
