Second Chance Expands Project Keep Me to House Pets of Veterans Seeking Inpatient Care
EAST BROOKFIELD — Second Chance Animal Services announced the expansion of its groundbreaking Project Keep Me program to include services for veterans seeking inpatient treatment.
Since its inception, Project Keep Me has provided temporary housing for the pets of domestic-violence survivors, allowing individuals to prioritize their safety while knowing their pets are well cared for. With this new addition, Project Keep Me will now support veterans undergoing inpatient care, offering a lifeline for those who may struggle to find accommodations for their pets during critical treatment periods.
“Project Keep Me has been a vital resource for survivors of domestic violence, and we’re thrilled to now offer this support to veterans as well,” said Sheryl Blancato, CEO and founder of Second Chance Animal Services. “Expanding the program to include veterans means we can help keep veterans and their pets together, allowing them to focus on healing and recovery.”
For veterans facing the difficult decision to seek inpatient treatment, Project Keep Me provides a solution to ensure the safety and well-being of their pets, allowing them to focus fully on recovery. Pets enrolled in the program will receive temporary housing, food, and medical care as needed, with support extending up to 90 days. This temporary arrangement not only eases the burden on pet owners, but also reinforces the importance of pets as a source of comfort and companionship during recovery.
“Veterans who need inpatient treatment are often unable to access the resources they need because they have no safe place to board their pets,” Blancato explained. “We’re committed to making sure that neither survivors nor veterans have to choose between their own health and the safety of their beloved pets.”
Since launching, Project Keep Me has served as a lifeline for domestic-violence survivors, and with the addition of veteran support, Second Chance aims to extend this critical assistance to even more individuals in need. As demand for services grows, Second Chance is seeking support to help fund and expand the program further, and invites community members, businesses, and philanthropic partners to support Project Keep Me through donations.
