Shriners Moving to Outpatient Model
SPRINGFIELD — Shriners Hospital for Children in Springfield is transitioning to an outpatient model of care that officials say is part of a nationwide evolution toward outpatient clinics.
The hospital, located on Carew Street, will close its remaining inpatient beds by the end of this year.
Along with this transition to an outpatient model, the facility will take on a new name — Shriner’s Children’s New England.
The Shriner’s hospital in Springfield treats children with a wide range of orthopedic conditions, cleft palate, and rheumatoid arthritis, with some work in prosthetics. Children are treated without regard to their family’s ability to pay, although the facility does accept insurance.
