Spence Joins Staff of Amherst Medical Associates

Denise Spence, MD, MSPH recently joined Amherst Medical Associates and the practice of Drs. William Smith and Joseph Coppola.

Spence received her medical degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at Fletcher Allen Health Care at the University of Ver-mont College of Medicine. Spence is board-certified in Internal Medi-cine, and she also earned a master’s degree in Public Health from the University of North Carolina.

For the past 10 years, Spence managed a busy medical practice in Greenfield where she gained extensive experience in managing the care of adults with complex medical problems. In 2004, Spence received the Excellence in Primary Care award from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts.

Prior to becoming a physician, Spence held the position of senior research analyst at the Washington, D.C.-based Brookings Institution, where she co-authored a book titled Caring for the Disabled Elderly: Who Will Pay?
