Square One Preschoolers to Learn Figure Skating, Ice Hockey
SPRINGFIELD — On Tuesday, Feb. 7, Square One’s preschoolers will be treated to a skating lesson at the MassMutual Center, compliments of the Springfield Thunderbirds, former U.S. Olympic figure skater Tiffany Scott Pryor, Olympia Ice Center, and Peter Pan Bus Lines.
“We could not be more excited to introduce our preschoolers to the sports of figure skating and ice hockey,” said Kristine Allard, vice president of Development & Communication at Square One. “Square One is so fortunate to have amazing community partners who are committed to introducing our children to new activities. You never know what an opportunity like this will inspire in our young children. We are so grateful to everyone involved in planning this special day.”
Pryor, who competed in the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, and members of the Springfield Thunderbirds organization will lead the children in the on-the-ice lesson, teaching them the basics of figure skating and hockey.
The field trip was made possible by the Tabb family of Olympia Ice Center, who initiated a campaign to collect skates for the children. Peter Pan Bus Lines donated a bus to transport the children to and from the MassMutual Center.
Square One currently provides early learning services to more than 500 infants, toddlers, and school-age children each day, and family-support services to 1,500 families each year.
