VA Central Western Massachusetts Healthcare System Announces Mobile Farmers Market
WORCESTER — VA Central Western Massachusetts Healthcare System (VACWM) announced Project New Hope Inc., a nonprofit veterans organization, will bring fresh produce to veterans and their families in Worcester. Project New Hope will operate a mobile farmers market at the VACWM Worcester location, 403 Belmont St., on the first and third Friday of each month.
This initiative aims to address the higher vulnerability of veterans and their families to diet-related health conditions such as diabetes and heart disease, which are often exacerbated by limited access to healthy foods. By providing fresh produce at no cost, the mobile farmers market seeks to reduce the economic barriers that some veteran families face when making fresh, healthy food choices.
“We are thrilled to partner with Project New Hope on this important initiative,” said Christopher Frappier, acting chief of the VACWM Center for Development and Civic Engagement. “This mobile farmers market will play a crucial role in improving the health and well-being of our veterans and their families by increasing access to fresh, nutritious foods.”
William Moore, president and chairman of the board at Project New Hope, added that “our organization is committed to supporting veterans in all aspects of their lives. By providing fresh produce, we hope to contribute to better health outcomes and improved quality of life for our local veteran community.”
