Walk of Champions Celebrates Successful 14th Year

WARE — Though the clouds were out, the 14th annual Walk of Champions to support cancer services at Baystate Mary Lane Outpatient Center brought more than 300 walkers to the Quabbin Reservoir to show their support.

The event raised more than $60,000. In the past, these funds supported the expansion of the Oncology unit at Baystate Mary Lane Outpatient Center. To date, the event has raised more than $904,000.

The Walk of Champions began in 2006 after John O’Neill and his family were touched by the care and compassion his mother received. O’Neill decided he wanted to give something back to the community, and the Walk of Champions was born.
