Western Mass. Walk to Defeat ALS Set for May 14
FLORENCE — The Western Mass. Walk to Defeat ALS will be held on May 14 at Look Park in Florence. Beginning with 9 a.m. check in and registration, the walk starts at 10:30. The three-mile walk seeks to raise more than $40,000 to sustain care services and support research to find a cure for ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Nine teams are early registered for this event. More than 250 people are expected at the event. The local corporate sponsor is HealthSouth. It joins the national corporate partners: Quantum Rehab, Numotion, Permobil, Phi Delta Theta, Bayada Home Health Care, and Cytokinetics. Television Media Sponsor is Western Mass News, and Chris Pisano of the station will serve as emcee of the event.
The event will feature entertainment for the warm up, a light breakfast and snacks, activities for children and families and music throughout the day. Participants who raise $75 or more will receive the official Walk to Defeat ALS T-Shirt. Anyone raising over $1,000 will be considered an all star and will receive VIP access and recognition at the walk. All individuals with ALS will also be recognized as all stars.
More than just a few-mile trek, the Walk to Defeat ALS® is an opportunity to bring hope to people living with ALS, to raise money for a cure, and to come together for something you care about. The Walk to Defeat ALS® is The ALS Association’s biggest annual event, which raises funds that allow our local chapters to sustain care services and support research for much of the following year. The Walk to Defeat ALS is a national signature event and each year, over 150,000 individuals, many from local companies and organizations, join together to raise funds in support of the ALS cause. Each year, approximately 183 walks will be held throughout the U.S. in a nationwide effort to raise $24 million.
Since its inception, thousands of people throughout the country have raised over $238 million to fight ALS.
