Westfield State University to Offer Phlebotomy Technician Program
WESTFIELD — The College of Graduate and Continuing Education at Westfield State University will offer a phlebotomy technician program on Tuesday and Thursday nights, March 5 through May 16, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. In addition to these scheduled evening classes, the course also includes three full-day Saturday sessions on March 16, April 6, and April 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Taught in partnership with Condensed Curriculum International, this program will prepare students to collect blood specimens from clients for the purpose of laboratory analysis. Students will become familiar with all aspects related to blood collection and develop comprehensive skills to perform venipunctures completely and safely. Classroom and lab work includes terminology, anatomy and physiology, blood-collection procedures, specimen hands-on practice, and training in skills and techniques to perform puncture methods. Students who complete this program will have the opportunity to pursue the National Healthcareer Assoc. (NHA) Phlebotomy Technician Exam.
The cost of the program is $1,799, which includes the required textbooks and materials. Students will also have the option of doing a 40-hour clinical externship for an additional $100 fee. To register online, visit www.westfield.ma.edu/phlebotomy.
