Youth Basketball Tournament to Honor Young Girl’s Legacy, Raise Scholarship Funds
SOUTHAMPTON — Hundreds of people are expected to gather on Friday and Saturday, April 6-7, at a 3-on-3 basketball tournament to raise money for Hampshire Regional High School scholarships and celebrate the legacy of Maddie Schmidt, a radiant Southampton resident who passed away at age 8 from a rare brain cancer (DIPG) on New Year’s Eve 2022.
The tournament will take place Friday from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at Hampshire Regional High School, 19 Stage Road, Westhampton; and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at William E. Norris School, 34 Pomeroy Meadow Road, Southampton.
Ninety-six teams and more than 350 players throughout Western Mass. will compete in short 3-on-3 games. Boys and girls in six divisions (grades 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12) will compete in double-elimination brackets.
