BOSTON – A survey for the first half of FY 2003 (Oct. 2002 to March 2003) conducted by the Mass. Hospital Assoc. shows that the statewide weighted average hospital operating margin was negative 3{06cf2b9696b159f874511d23dbc893eb1ac83014175ed30550cfff22781411e5}. Sixty percent of hospitals reported operating losses, compared with 48{06cf2b9696b159f874511d23dbc893eb1ac83014175ed30550cfff22781411e5} at the end of the 2002 second quarter. Statewide, total margins fell to positive 0.4{06cf2b9696b159f874511d23dbc893eb1ac83014175ed30550cfff22781411e5}, the lowest in seven years. More than half the hospitals reported negative total margins.
