Allies in Recovery Featured on HBO Special
SUNDERLAND — Allies in Recovery (AIR), a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the family members and friends of those with substance abuse problems, has been recognized nationally on the 14-part HBO documentary Addiction.
Allies in Recovery offers a family-intervention model known as Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT). The organization is featured on the documentary segment “Addiction: Why Can’t They Just Stop?” which focuses on new knowledge, new treatments, and new hope for families with loved ones who suffer from substance abuse.
The HBO special, which aired several times throughout March, features mock sessions from Allies in Recovery using the CRAFT approach.
AIR is also the only community organization providing CRAFT, an approach that uses non-confrontational behavioral principles such as finding and rewarding positive behavior to teach family members how to interact and respond to loved ones with substance problems, and how to influence them to seek help. AIR was founded in 2004 by its current director, Dominique Simon Levine, PhD, MPH.
