Arthritis Foundation Hosts Online Auction

The Massachusetts chapter of the Arthritis Foundation has introduced a new way to show support for more than 1.5 million adults and 3,000 children living with arthritis and related diseases across the state: the first annual online auction atwww.arthritisma.cmarket.com.

The auction will run through midnight Sunday, Dec. 10, and promises to offer attractive getaways, unique gifts, sports memorabilia, original art, and more. Arthritis Foundation supporters have received e-mails about the auction, and can forward those e-mails to invite an unlimited number of guests to virtually “attend” and take part in the auction. Members of the public can also participate by going to the website.

The organization is using online software from cMarket Inc., a Cambridge-based company focused on supporting non-profit organizations. Melody Horgan, director of special events for the Massachusetts chapter, noted that “having an online event allows supporters from across the state and beyond to participate in an event from the comfort of their own desktop.”

All proceeds help people in Massachusetts by funding arthritis research, and by offering community and family services that include professional education, exercise, self-help programs, family networking groups, and information resources. The Arthritis Foundation is a national non-profit health organization dedicated to improving lives through leadership in the prevention, control, and cure of arthritis and related diseases.

Everyone is welcome to browse, shop, or just drop by and sign the guest book to show their support for the Arthritis Foundation. Donated items are still being accepted — simply log onto the site and click on the “Donate Now” button. Users can also contribute to the auction’s success by using the “Tell a Friend” button on the website. For more information, contact Melody Horgan at mhorgan@arthritis.org or (617) 219-8223.
