Baystate Franklin Medical Center Hosts Brain-injury Support Group
GREENFIELD — The Brain Injury Assoc. of Massachusetts (BIA-MA) sponsors a brain-injury support group on the last Wednesday of each month, 5-7 p.m., in Baystate Franklin Medical Center’s Conference Room A. Refreshments are provided. Discussions and guest speakers are varied. Survivors of brain injury, as well as their spouses, family members, and caregivers, are invited.
Brain injuries can have a traumatic effect on both survivors and their families. The Brain Injury Assoc. of Massachusetts sponsors support groups across the state to provide survivors and their loved ones a forum for sharing information about brain injury.
“The forum provides a compassionate environment for survivors to share their stories with an understanding peer group,” said Scott Doane, director of the Western Regional Office of BIA-MA. “It also provides an opportunity to socialize and make new friends with others through recreational activities and outings.”
Doane said the meetings have a laid-back atmosphere, and the group is welcoming to everyone and serves as a resource to all in the community. “During the meetings, they exchange experiences and ideas, identify local support systems, and just have fun together.”
For more information, contact Doane at (413) 443-0200 or (888) 554-5553. The next meeting takes place on Wednesday, July 29.
