SPRINGFIELD — Baystate MRI & Imaging has added to its services the first and only “true” open-bore MRI to the region. This innovative form of magnetic resonance imaging combines a larger bore, or opening, for claustrophobic and larger patients with the ability to capture high-field, quality diagnostic images.
The patient-friendly design of this magnet will make it easier for large patients and those with claustrophobia to have MRI exams, which produce higher-quality images.
The unit features an opening of 2.3 feet in diameter and almost one foot of free space between a patient’s head and the magnet. More than 60{06cf2b9696b159f874511d23dbc893eb1ac83014175ed30550cfff22781411e5} of exams can be completed with the patient’s head outside of the bore.
Baystate MRI & Imaging is located at Baystate Medical Center’s 3300 Main St. outpatient care facility in Springfield.
