Baystate Mary Lane Hospital Upgrades CT Scanner
WARE — Baystate Mary Lane Hospital is upgrading its medical-imaging capabilities for its patients.
The hospital’s Radiology Department is installing a new, 64-slice CT (computed tomography) scanner. The project’s $500,000 cost is being picked up by Baystate Health.
“The NeuViz 64 CT scanner upgrade improves the quality of patient care by providing better image quality at the lowest possible radiation exposure; increases scanning speed, which will shorten exam and wait times for patients; and will allow us to increase clinical studies to be done at Baystate Mary Lane Hospital,” said Dr. Mohammed Ahmed, chief operating officer for Baystate Health Eastern Region and chief medical officer of Baystate Mary Lane Hospital and Baystate Medical Practices Eastern Region.
“The new CT project will also include renovations to our CT suite,” he continued. “As the upgraded scanner is installed, arrangements have been made with our sister hospital, Baystate Wing Hospital in Palmer, to accommodate our patients in the region for the most emergent scans needed during this period.” Patients who will receive scans at Wing during this time will be given directions and all other information they need to receive the care they need, and may call their healthcare provider with any questions.
“This is a great example of the value of our new partnership between Baystate Mary Lane and Baystate Wing,” said Dr. Charles Cavagnaro, president of Baystate Health’s Eastern Region. “Two hospitals collaborating to support excellent patient care, amid a significant new investment in the region’s medical facilities by Baystate Health — this is a win-win.”
Added Ahmed, “this is all part of our shared efforts to operate most efficiently, delivering the right care at the right time, in the right place, at the right cost. We will continue to build on the strengths of our staff, hospital, health system, and community. The improved technology will have a positive impact on our current patients and support our commitment to provide care locally for years to come.”
