Baystate Mary Lane to Unveil Imaging Center and 3D Mammography on Oct. 16

WARE — In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Baystate Mary Lane Outpatient Center will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house for the newly renovated Imaging Center featuring 3D mammography on Wednesday, Oct. 16 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. This event is open to the community.

The newly updated radiology space offers a full array of services, now including 3D mammography, as well as ultrasound, bone-density DEXA scans, diagnostic X-ray, and computed tomography (CT) services for patients, all in one location.

The renovation and expansion to the Imaging Center in Ware features the Genius 3D Mammography exam system, developed by Hologic Inc., a worldwide leader in women’s health, as well as a consultation room and an exclusive registration and waiting area.

3D mammography (tomosynthesis) is an FDA-approved technology that creates multiple thin 3D image slices that allow each section of the breast tissue to be seen more clearly. Some studies show that 3D mammography improves breast-cancer detection rates and reduces the need for additional imaging.

The overall cost of the renovations and the addition of 3D mammography was $1.6 million and reflects Baystate Health’s commitment to ensuring that people living and working in the region have access to state-of-the-art imaging services close to home.

The event will begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4:30 p.m. The Imaging Center and the mammography suite will be open for tours, and the team will be available for questions and to make mammography appointments. The evening will be filled with live entertainment, samplings from Baystate Mary Lane Chef Jason Green, complimentary hand massages, and bone-density screenings. Registration is requested by calling (413) 794-2413. All that register will receive a complementary insulated beverage tumbler.

Dr. Steven Allen, chief of Radiology at Baystate Mary Lane and Baystate Wing Hospital, and his team are eager to welcome members of the community, and hope to ease some of the concerns that come with scheduling a mammogram. “Patients deserve quick, compassionate care during all health-screening processes,” he said. “We are proud of our outstanding team of licensed diagnostic radiology, mammography, and CT technologists that provide outstanding care locally with kindness and professionalism.”
