BFMC Rehabilitation Department Offers Coaches’ Education Clinic

GREENFIELD — Baystate Rehabilitation Care at Baystate Franklin Medical Center (BFMC) will sponsor the 13th annual Coaches’ Education Clinic, “Above the Waist,” on Thursday, July 30, from 5 to 9 p.m., in the hospital’s main conference rooms, 164 High St., Greenfield.

During this free sports-medicine clinic, experts will discuss topics that pertain specifically to keeping young athletes safe and healthy. Participating in the program are four sports-medicine and orthopedic experts: Darius Greenbacher, MD, FACEP; James Montgomery Bullock, MD; Jacob Quinney, PT, DPT; and Maxim Borishkevich, PT, DPT.

Greenbacher, medical director at Baystate Sports & Exercise Medicine, will present “Keeping Your Shoulder Strong.” He will discuss various preventive strategies and non-surgical treatments for common shoulder issues in sports.

“Surgical Intervention” will be the topic covered by Bullock, a shoulder and sports-medicine orthopedic surgeon for the Sports Medicine Program at Baystate Medical Practices. He will explain conservative and surgical intervention for common shoulder injuries and problems in sports.

Quinney, a physical therapist for the Sports Medicine Program at Baystate Rehabilitation Care, will speak on “Nutrition Basics.” He will discuss how to establish healthy nutrition habits for performance in young athletes.

Also a physical therapist for the Sports Medicine Program at Baystate Rehabilitation Care, Borishkevich will present “Concussion: Is Your Athlete’s Head in the Game?” He will lecture on the most recent information around concussions in sports.

The 2015 Coaches’ Education Clinic is free of charge, but pre-registration is required before July 27. Light refreshments will be included. For more information or to register, call Baystate Health Link at (800) 377-4325.
