Delk Joins Baystate Wesson Women’s Group

SPRINGFIELD — Dr. Carolyn Delk, specializing in minimally invasive surgery and adolescent health, has joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baystate Medical Center.

Delk earned her medical degree at Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Vallejo, Calif. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Baystate Medical Center in June. During her four-year residency, she was the recipient of multiple Notable Teaching Citations from Tufts University School of Medicine and served as co-author of “Approach to Health Care for Lesbian and Bisexual Women,” published last year in The Female Patient.

Prior to medical school, Delk attended Smith College, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience and women’s studies. During medical school, she served as a community health worker at the Women’s Choice Clinic in Oakland, Calif. She is board-eligible with the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Active in several professional societies, Delk is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the Mass. Medical Society, and the Assoc. of Reproductive Health Professionals.

Delk sees patients at Baystate Wesson Women’s Group, located at 3300 Main St. in Springfield, providing comprehensive obstetrical and gynecological care for women of all ages, including well-women preventive health care, reproductive health counseling and services, and counseling and treatment for menopausal symptoms.

CHD Taps Somers as New Medical Director

SPRINGFIELD — The Center for Human Development (CHD) has announced the hiring of  Dr. Nathan Somers as the agency’s medical director.

Somers will manage and coordinate psychiatric and medical services throughout the agency and all its programs in Hampden, Hampshire, and Franklin counties and Northern Conn. He will also see clients at CHD’s Outpatient Behavioral Health Services clinics, providing psychiatric assessments and medication management to children, adolescents, and adults.

“We’re very excited about having Dr. Somers come aboard,” said CHD President and CEO Jim Goodwin. “His range of skills and expertise will greatly enhance the agency. His ability to manage,  communicate effectively with staff, and provide strategic vision and direction will boost CHD’s position as one of the top providers of behavioral-health services in the region.”

Somers is board-certified in both general adult psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry. He is a 2002 graduate of UMass Medical School in Worcester, where he also performed his residency in adult/child and adolescent psychiatry. He received his bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College in 1997, graduating magna cum laude.

He comes to CHD after serving as attending psychiatrist at Providence Behavioral Health Hospital in Holyoke and as a staff psychiatrist at Carson Center for Children and Youth in Westfield and ServiceNet in Northampton. He is a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the New England Council of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the American Psychiatric Assoc., and the Mass. Psychiatry Society.

New England Pain Center Welcomes Nguyen to Team

PITTSFIELD — Berkshire Medical Center announced the appointment of Dr. Steven Nguyen, a board-certified and fellowship-trained physician specializing in pain management, to the BMC medical staff and the New England Pain Diagnosis & Treatment Center at BMC.

Nguyen is accepting new patients in need of pain-management services and joins Dr. Andrew DeMaggio at the Pain Center.

Nguyen is board-certified in anesthesiology and was fellowship-trained in pain medicine at Emory University Medical Center in Atlanta. He received his medical degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla, N.Y., and completed his residency in anesthesiology from Montefiore Medical Center in New York City. He is fluent in English, Vietnamese, and Spanish.

Barraz-Masroua Joins Berkshire Ob/Gyn

PITTSFIELD — Berkshire Health Systems announced the appointment of Dr. Daniel Barraez-Masroua, an obstetrician and gynecologist with a specialization in minimally invasive and robotic-assisted gynecologic surgery, to the Berkshire Medical Center medical staff.

Barraez-Masroua joins Berkshire Ob/Gyn Associates, practicing with Drs. Andrew Beckwith, Robert Benner, Herbert Kantor, Cassandra Service, Michael Shreefter, and Lauren Slater. He is accepting new patients in need of ob/gyn services. Barraez-Masroua is trained in the use of the da Vinci Surgical System, a state-of-the-art robotic-assisted platform used at BMC for gynecologic surgery.

He received his medical degree from the Central University of Venezuala, Luis Razetti School of Medicine, and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Albany Medical Center in Albany, N.Y.
