Cooley Dickinson Professional Development Program Announces Classes

• Heartsaver AED CPR: Tuesdays, Jan. 26 and March 29, 6-9 p.m., $52. As a Heartsaver trained in CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), you can improve someone’s chances of surviving a cardiac event.

• Heartsaver FA/AED/CPR: Saturday, Feb. 20, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., $85. (Heartsaver CPR/AED only: 9-11 a.m., $52; Heartsaver First Aid only, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., $40.) This course is designed to meet the training requirements in all 50 states for first-aid training. Classroom format is ideal for learners who prefer group interaction and feedback from an instructor. This course teaches first-aid basics for medical emergencies, injury emergencies, and environmental emergencies for adults and children.

• CPR for Health Care Providers: Saturdays, Feb. 6 and March 5, 9-11 a.m., $62. This class includes full certification for healthcare providers — nurses, doctors, and paramedics — including basic life support; one-and-two-person CPR for adults, children, and infants; and automated external defibrillator. It does not include first-aid training. Certification is good for two years.

• CPR Recertification for Health Care Providers: Thursdays, Jan. 28, Feb. 11, and March 10, 9 a.m. to noon, $52.

• Choking Awareness Course: Tuesday, Feb. 15, 9-10 a.m., $20. Sponsored by the Northampton Health Department, the American Heart Assoc., and Cooley Dickinson, this course is appropriate for anyone who works in the food-service industry and wants to learn basic choking-relief skills. Completion of the course satisfies 105 CMR 590.001 State Food Code requirements.

• Supersitters Course: Saturday, March 12, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., $40. Learn babysitting basics in a one-session class for kids ages 12 and up. Students learn strategies for infants — handling, feeding, and diapering — as well as fire safety, first aid, when and whom to call for help if needed, and CPR. Participants should bring a brown-bag lunch to class.

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ALCS) Full Certification: Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 24-25, 89 a.m. to 2 p.m., $300. This course is designed for healthcare professionals who respond to adult life-threatening emergencies. The course teaches life-saving skills required to be both a team member and a team leader in both in-hospital and out-of- hospital settings. Pre-course work is required.

• ACLS Recertification: Wednesday, Jan. 27, and Tuesday, March 22, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., $175.

• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Full Certification: Wednesday and Thursday, March 2-3, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. $300. This course is designed for healthcare professionals who respond to child or infant life-threatening emergencies. The course teaches life-saving skills required to be both a team member and a team leader in both in-hospital and out-of- hospital settings.

• Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Stabilization, and Recognition (PEARS) Full Certification: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., $175. To inquire about dates, call (413) 582-2400. This course is for healthcare professionals who treat critically ill children or infants frequently. It teaches how to recognize respiratory distress, shock, and cardiac arrest, and emphasizes a team approach to provide appropriate life-saving interventions.
