Cornerstone Quilters Donates Handmade Baby Blankets
WARE — Babies born in the Women and Infants Unit at Baystate Mary Lane Hospital are sent home with a handmade gift from the hospital Auxiliary. For more than three years, the committee, led by Blanche Atwood, offers each baby born at BMLH a handmade blanket and bonnet. Most are knitted or crocheted, but recently Cornerstone Quilters of Charlton, Mass., donated handmade quilts, each unique, offering parents a warm and fashionable accessory to bring their tiny bundles home in.
Cornerstone Quilters, a quilting guild located in Charlton, Mass., consists of more than 150 active quilters who meet regularly to share ideas and quilt. In 2009, nearly 100 colorful, handmade quilts were made and donated to local organizations, including Baystate Mary Lane Hospital.
“Our experts make a birth experience the best possible by providing special, personalized care with a range of birthing options and individualized nursing care,” said Deb Gagnon, manager of Development at BMLH. “We are honored to offer parents the opportunity to pick from the many beautiful, handmade quilts, which are sure to become keepsake for the families commemorating the birth of their baby as well as the special experience and care they receive at our hospital.”
