Daily Hampshire Gazette Pledges $150,000 To CDH Campaign

NORTHAMPTON — The Bay State’s oldest continuously published newspaper and one of the oldest in the country, the Daily Hampshire Gazette has pledged $150,000 to Cooley Dickinson Hospital’s Caring for the Future campaign. The pledge was made by Charles and Peter DeRose, whose family has owned the Gazette since 1929, and Newspapers of New England which is in the process of buying the Gazette from the DeRose family.

“The Daily Hampshire Gazette is proud to serve the greater Northampton community by contributing to Cooley Dickinson Hospital’s building expansion project,” said Tom Brown, president of Newspapers of New England.

Brown said the organization and its leadership team strongly support local institutions like Cooley Dickinson Hospital and understand that locally available health care services are vital to the area.

“It is important that we continue to carry on the DeRose family’s commitment to community,” Brown added. “From one long-standing organization to another, we are happy to pledge our support.”

To date, nearly $3.9 million of the $8.5 million Caring for the Future Campaign goal has been raised.

Cooley Dickinson Hospital has been providing health care services for nearly 120 years. Today and looking forward, Cooley Dickinson is committed to being a model community hospital providing a comprehensive range of services to Pioneer Valley residents.

Cooley Dickinson’s $50 million building expansion project started in April of 2005. The new four-story, 116,000 square-foot building will expand the hospital’s core services. New building highlights include larger operating rooms, same-day surgery and recovery areas, a centralized laboratory and equipment sterilization room, a wing of 32 single-occupancy patient rooms, and an expanded Joint Replacement Center.

The building is expected to be completed by spring of 2007. For more information about the Caring for the Future campaign, call the CDH Development Office at (413) 582-2255 or visit www.caringforthefuture.org
