Dakin Humane Society Receives $2,500 from Grainger Foundation for Pet Food Aid Program

SPRINGFIELD — The Grainger Foundation, an independent, private foundation located in Lake Forest, Ill., donated $2,500 to Dakin Humane Society in support of its Pet Food Aid Program.

“This grant funding will be used to provide dog and cat food for people who are struggling to feed their pets during tough times,” said Carmine DiCenso, Dakin’s executive director. “Keeping people and their pets together is an important priority at Dakin, and we are grateful to the Grainger Foundation for its generosity in helping us in this effort.”

Dakin’s Pet Food Aid Program has been in place for several years to ensure that people have a place to turn when their dogs and cats need food. Last year, Dakin delivered more than 27,000 pounds of pet food to area human-service agencies, in addition to offering pet food to those in need who visited its adoption centers in Springfield and Leverett.

This donation was recommended by Karen Archambault, Springfield branch manager for W.W. Grainger Inc. Grainger has been a part of the Springfield business community for more than 40 years as a leading broad-line supplier of maintenance, repair, and operating products.

“We are proud to recommend the programs offered by Dakin,” Archambault said. “We understand the need for people to have resources to keep their pets.”
