Do You Have Too Much Stuff? This Workshop Can Help

SPRINGFIELD — Individuals who struggle with hoarding behaviors are invited to join the Buried in Treasures Workshop, a peer-led self-help group for overcoming clutter. The group will meet to discuss and practice skills outlined in the book Buried in Treasures. Group members are encouraged to complete rewarding exercises and set small weekly goals in a supportive, non-judgmental environment.

Among other goals, group members will share peer support with other people who want to overcome clutter, learn reasons why it’s hard to overcome clutter (and skills to do it), learn to resist the temptation to collect too much stuff, learn how to decide which items to save, and learn how to organize items.

The first meeting takes place Thursday, June 21, and the group will continue to meet Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. for 16 weeks. The cost for joining the group is $10 and includes a copy of Buried in Treasures. This group will not be larger than 12 members. Due to the private nature of the group, the Springfield address will be provided upon registration. The group is co-sponsored by the Western MA Hoarding Task Force and CHD.
