Dr. Claudia Martorell Becomes CRI’S New Associate Director
SPRINGFIELD/BOSTON – Community Research Initiative of New England (CRI) is pleased to announce that Claudia Martorell, MD MPH – a board certified Infectious Diseases physician with a Masters of Public Health and a Fellowship in Minority Health Policy from Harvard University – has become CRI West’s new Associate Director of Research.
Based in her Springfield, Massachusetts’ office,Martorell will continue the incredible private practice and clinical HIV/AIDS research begun by the late Dr. Anne B. Morris in 1999.
“We are grateful and extremely pleased that Dr. Martorell will provide a seamless transition in continuing Dr. Anne Morris’ legacy,” said Julie Marston, CRI’s Executive Director. “As CRI’s new Associate Director of Research in Western Mass., her clinical and research knowledge and in particular, her deep commitment to reaching women and people of color who have had limited access to life-saving drug trials and care, makes her a perfect fit for our organization and a great care provider in one of the hardest-hit cities in the Commonwealth.”
“This is an exciting opportunity for me to not only continue providing our community with the outstanding medical care provided by Dr. Morris for so many years, but also to help bring the most promising HIV/AIDS research, care and treatment to an even broader group of people,“ said Martorell.
She was the recent TB Control Officer for the City of Boston and Medical Director, Communicable Disease Control/TB of the Boston Public Health Commission, Boston. She was the recipient of the 2004 AMA Foundation Excellence in Medicine Award as well as the 2004 Hampden District Medical Society’s Leadership Physician Award. As a Consultant/Clinical Investigator at CRI for the past year, Martorell quickly became known for her leadership role in infectious disease research and treatment, her compassionate medical care and for her long-standing commitment to serving the underserved in the medical and public health field.
