Free Dementia Experience Workshop Slated for Oct. 9 at Armbrook Village

WESTFIELD — Armbrook Village will host a Dementia Experience program on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. at the 551 North Road, Westfield facility.

Armbrook Village’s Dementia Experience uses sensory modifications and role-playing activities to depict real-life situations a person living with mild cognitive impairment or dementia would face. Getting dressed, taking daily medications, and preparing for a meal, are all simple activities that are severely thwarted by cognitive disability.

The Dementia Experience thrusts the participant into the daily life of someone with dementia by simulating the physical ailments afflicting many seniors and creating the frustration, confusion, and anxiety that accompanies cognitive impairment.

People interested in attending the workshop might include associates of senior-living communities; families or caregivers of individuals with dementia; senior-center administrators, staff, and members; skilled-nursing and rehabilitation staff; and other professionals who work with seniors.

This is a free event, but space is limited, so registration is necessary. Call Armbrook Village at (413) 568-000 to register. This training will last about two hours. Social workers, nurses, case managers, and EMTs can obtain 2.5 CEUs for attending.
