Freedom Credit Union Accepting Donations in Support of Griffin’s Friends
SPRINGFIELD — Freedom Credit Union is collecting cash donations at its 11 branches throughout Western Mass. to benefit Griffin’s Friends, a volunteer-led group dedicated to providing support to children with cancer. Donations will be accepted through Friday, April 30.
“The mission of Griffin’s Friends is simple and heartfelt: to bring moments of joy to courageous kids. That’s a cause we can get behind, and we know we can speak for our members and staff as well,” Freedom Credit Union President Glenn Welch said.
Throughout the month of April, Freedom Credit Union employees and members, as well as the community at large, are encouraged to make monetary donations at any Freedom branch.
Griffin’s Friends was founded in 1994 in Springfield and is named for Griffin Kelleher, who passed away from cancer when he was 14 months old. This group is his legacy, supporting children in treatment for cancer and their families.
Griffin’s Friends offers small acts of kindness to provide relief, hope, and support to local children with cancer and their families. Examples include trips to stage performances and sporting events; in-hospital and outpatient entertainment; massage therapy; art supplies, computers, games, and other items for children undergoing cancer treatment; and more.
“Having a child undergoing treatment for cancer can be all-consuming for families. They are under a lot of pressure, emotionally and financially,” said Welch. “We’re proud to rally our resources to provide opportunities for relief for children and families in our community.”
