Funds from Ride for Randi Purchase Infusion Chair

WARE — The oncology suite at Baystate Mary Lane Hospital has purchased a new infusion chair thanks to a donation made from the Ride for Randi Foundation.

The Ride for Randi, a 65-mile motorcycle ride, is held annually in memory of Randi Swistak-Stelmokas, who passed away in 2005 after being thrown from her horse, and also Randi’s father, Mike Swistak, who lost his battle to cancer in 2010.

“We find great comfort in knowing that the proceeds from the ride will help others get through difficult times in their lives as well,” said Mary Ann Swistak as she and her daughter Blair reflected on the $3,000 donation made to the hospital. “Receiving care close to home at Baystate Mary Lane Hospital was important to Mike; he was able to be near to our family, our friends, and close to work.”

“Thanks to the generosity of the Ride for Randi supporters, we were able to purchase a new infusion chair for our oncology suite,” said Lori Tuttle, RN. “This chair is a tremendous benefit to our patients who spend from one to eight hours at a time in our department while they receive their chemotherapy treatment and/or a blood transfusion. We’re very grateful all that participated in the Ride for Randi which made this donation possible.”

The Baystate Regional Cancer Program at Baystate Mary Lane Hospital treats cancer patients from the many communities served by the hospital and across the eastern region. For more information visit www.baystatehealth.org/bmlh.
