Google Searches Reveal Massachusetts’ Most In-demand Health Professionals

MASSACHUSETTS — Key Opinion Leaders, an AI-driven search engine for finding experts in the scientific community, examined which health professionals are the most in demand in each of the 50 U.S. states by analyzing Google search data.

It considered 92 different types of health professionals, such as cardiologists, oncologists, and pediatricians, and looked at the combined searches for ‘specialist’ and ‘specialist near me’ to find which were the most in demand in each state. Salary data for each specialty was also included, as reported by the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Massachusetts’ most-searched-for health specialists are as follows:

1. Dermatologists (average yearly salary: $302,740), who diagnose and treat a range of skin, hair, and nail conditions, such as acne, dermatitis, and psoriasis.

2. Psychiatrists (average yearly salary: $249,760), who specialize in diagnosing, treating, and preventing mental, behavioral, and emotional disorders such as depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia.

3. Optometrists (average yearly salary: $125,440), who specialize in providing primary vision care, can prescribe contact lenses and glasses, and identify common eye conditions such as glaucoma and macular degeneration.

4. Ophthalmologists (average yearly salary: $270,090), who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of eye and vision problems. Their duties are similar to an optometrist in that they provide eye exams and can prescribe glasses and contact lenses. However, they are also able to treat any eye condition in addition to performing eye surgery.

5. Pediatricians (average yearly salary: $198,420), who work with children from birth through the teen years to ensure they are meeting their developmental milestones and diagnose and treat any issues that may impact a child’s physical or mental health.
