HealthGrades Recognizes BMC for Stroke Treatment
PITTSFIELD — A report released by HealthGrades, an independent source of hospital quality ratings, named Berkshire Medical Center number one in Massachusetts for the treatment of stroke for the second year in a row. BMC was also ranked among the top 5{06cf2b9696b159f874511d23dbc893eb1ac83014175ed30550cfff22781411e5} in the nation for stroke and pulmonary care and among the top 10{06cf2b9696b159f874511d23dbc893eb1ac83014175ed30550cfff22781411e5} for critical care.
As a result, BMC has received the HealthGrades Stroke Care Excellence Award for the third year in a row, the Pulmonary Care Excellence Award for the fourth year running, and the HealthGrades Critical Care Excellence Award for the first time. BMC was ranked number two in Massachusetts for critical care. In addition, it was recognized with five-star ratings in the treatment of heart attack, heart failure, stroke, overall pulmonary services, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pneumonia, sepsis, and respiratory failure.
The HealthGrades report found that patients treated at five-star-rated hospitals experience a 73{06cf2b9696b159f874511d23dbc893eb1ac83014175ed30550cfff22781411e5} lower risk of mortality and a 63{06cf2b9696b159f874511d23dbc893eb1ac83014175ed30550cfff22781411e5} lower risk of complications compared to one-star-rated hospitals.
