Jewish Geriatric Services Breaks Ground on Sosin Center for Rehabilitation
LONGMEADOW — This week, Jewish Geriatric Services (JGS) broke ground for the Sosin Center for Rehabilitation, a new short-stay rehab center that will provide a more home-like setting for people undergoing rehabilitative care.
Designed with input from healthcare providers and recipients, the Sosin Center will use the small-house model of care, which combines the best of a home-like setting with excellent care. Amenities will include private rooms, common living and dining areas, and many comforts of home.
At the groundbreaking event, U.S. Rep. Richard Neal congratulated JGS for providing support to people in later stages of life, and providing them with comfort and security. Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno also praised JGS for giving the community “piece of mind” for more than a century. State Rep. Brian Ashe was also present, along with Longmeadow Town Manager Stephen Crane and Select Board members Richard Foster and Marie Angelides.
The $11.4 million Sosin Center for Rehabilitation is named after George Sosin, a JGS volunteer, family member, former resident, and supporter, who left $3 million to JGS in support of the center, the largest contribution received in its 103-year history.
