MassMutual Earns Red Cross Humanitarian Award
SPRINGFIELD — The American Red Cross recently honored the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. (MassMutual) with its Circle of Humanitarians Award.
The Circle of Humanitarians Award is presented to philanthropic corporations to acknowledge their support of the American Red Cross nationally, regionally, and locally. MassMutual was recognized for its leadership in supporting the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, as well as its support of the local Pioneer Valley Chapter during a very busy fire season. It is one of only a handful of Massachusetts companies who have earned this recognition.
“Caring partners like MassMutual ensure that the American Red Cross has the resources to respond to disasters across the country,” said Joe Becker, senior vice president for Preparedness and Response.
“Their generous gifts have enabled the Red Cross to provide vital relief during large-scale disasters, as well as devastating home or apartment fires that occur every day.”
MassMutual provided leadership in support of the hurricane relief efforts with combined corporate, employee, and employee-matching funds totaling $800,000.
“I’m very pleased to accept this award on behalf of MassMutual,” said Stuart Reese, MassMutual’s president and CEO. “MassMutual has a long history of giving back to the community, and we hope our contributions to the American Red Cross go a long way towards fulfilling its mission to provide relief and comfort to those in need after disasters and emergencies.”
