McCorkle Named District 1 Regent By ACHE
SPRINGFIELD — Vincent J. McCorkle, president and chief executive officer of Sisters of Providence Health System, has been named regent by the American College of Health Care Executives (ACHE).
The ACHE is an international professional society of 30,000 health care executives who lead the nation’s hospitals, health care systems, and other health care organizations. As regent, McCorkle sits on the governing body for ACHE, serving as one of 14 regents in District 1 of the ACHE. McCorkle’s term will run through September 2005.
District 1 covers the Atlantic Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island, and also Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Ontario, Quebec, Rhode Island and Vermont.
“It is a privilege to represent my colleagues as we work to strengthen the competencies and standards of our profession,” said McCorkle, who represents Central and Western Mass. health care leaders in governing the ACHE. McCorkle has been a member of the American College of Health Care Executives since 1988.
Founded in 1933 ACHE is known for its prestigious credentialing and educational programs and its annual Congress on Health Care Management, which draws more than 4,000 participants each year. ACHE is also known for its journal, the Journal of Health Care Management, and magazine, Healthcare Executive, as well as ground-breaking research and public policy programs.
McCorkle first came to Western Mass. in 1993, serving as president and chief executive officer of the Acute/Ambulatory Care Network for the then-named Mercy Hospital and Providence Hospital. In March, 1996, McCorkle was named executive vice president of the Sisters of Providence Health System and in October 1997, became president and chief executive officer of SPHS. He also serves as chair of the board of Mercy Medical Center.
