Mercy Nuclear Medicine Wins American College of Radiology Accreditation

SPRINGFIELD — Mercy Medical Center’s Nuclear Medicine Department was recently notified that it has received a three-year accreditation from the American College of Radiology (ACR).

Mercy’s Nuclear Medicine Department is the only hospital nuclear medicine center to achieve this accreditation in Massachusetts, and only the sixth in New England, said Mark Saari, manager of diagnostic imaging at Mercy.

The accreditation is for all of the center’s imaging techniques in Nuclear Medicine: Planar, SPECT (3-Dimensional) and Nuclear Cardiology Imaging, said Saari. “This accreditation was a six-month process for us to show that the quality of our equipment, people, techniques, and readings are always performed to the highest standards in the industry.”

The ACR is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic and interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, and medical physicists.
