Mercy Opens Two Baby Cafés
SPRINGFIELD — Mercy Medical Center’s Family Life Center for Maternity has opened two Baby Cafés, the first such offerings in Western Mass.
Serving pregnant and breastfeeding mothers in the local community, the Baby Café project offers breastfeeding help, information, and support in a relaxed environment. At the Baby Café, mothers are welcome to meet other breastfeeding moms, share their experiences, and talk with professionally trained lactation specialists.
There are two locations for Mercy’s new Baby Cafés. The first is located in a room just inside the lobby of Mercy Medical Center at 299 Carew St. in Springfield, while the second is located at MercyCare Forest Park at 475 Sumner Ave. in Springfield. For more information, call Mercy’s Parenting Education Department at (413) 748-7295 or log on to www.mercycares.com.
The Baby Café project is funded by the Mass. Department of Public Health through a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity Program. Promoting breastfeeding is recognized by the CDC as an important obesity-prevention strategy.
The overall goal of the grant is to improve the continuity of breastfeeding care in Massachusetts by enhancing community-based post-discharge resources for women and their families.
