Mercy Radiology Department Welcomes New Physicians

SPRINGFIELD — Mercy Medical Center recently announced the appointment of three new physicians to the Department of Radiology: Dr. Mark R. Shafer, neuroradiology; Dr. Peter Janczuk, neuroradiology; and Dr. Gregory E. Blackman, interventional radiology.
The three joined the staff on July 1.

Shafer earned his bachelor’s degree in Biology at Brandeis University, his master’s degree in Biology at Harvard University, his degree in Dentistry at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, and his medical degree from New York Medical College. His postgraduate training also includes a residency in Diagnostic Radiology at St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City and a fellowship in Neuroradiology at Yale University School of Medicine.

Janczuk, a native of Poland, attended medical school at the Medical Academy in Bialystok, Poland, where he earned his medical degree in 1990. His postgraduate training includes stints at the

New York Hospital Medical Center in Queens, with an internship in Internal Medicine; Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Northport University Hospital
at Stony Brook (Nuclear Medicine);and New York-Presbyterian Hospital and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (Neuroradiology).

Blackman earned his bachelor’s degree in Biology from Centenary College of Louisiana in Shreveport and his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tenn.

He completed residences in General Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Parkland Memorial Hospi-tal, and in Diagnostic Radiology at Bay-state Medical Center in Springfield, Tufts University School of Medicine. Blackman is a fellow in Cardiovascular and Inter-ventional Radiology at Dartmouth Hitch-cock Medical nter in Lebanon, N.H.
