MHA Names Lahey CEO Its 65th Chairman
BURLINGTON, Mass. — Lahey Clinic CEO Dr. David Barrett became the 65th chairman of the Mass. Hospital Assoc. at the group’s recent annual meeting.
In personal remarks to the gathering, Barrett said the “time for action has come” on the big challenges in health care.
He cited the hospital community’s ‘Patients First’ effort, in which the state’s hospitals have agreed to publicly share staffing levels and report on a common set of measures on the quality of care patients receive.
In the months ahead, the measures will be selected and staffing plans will be available on the Internet, he said.
Barrett also noted the MHA’s role in efforts to expand health care coverage. “In collaboration with other advocacy groups, we have set the stage for large-scale, long-term reform,” he said, noting movement on Beacon Hill toward coverage for the uninsured. “This is the year for action on health care coverage.”
The MHA leadership team for 2005-2006 also includes Heywood Hospital President and CEO Dan Moen, who will serve as chairman-elect; North Shore Medical Center President and CEO Robert Norton, treasurer; and Southcoast Hospital Group President and CEO John Day, secretary.
