Physicians Offer Monthly Training to Area EMTs

WARE — The Baystate Mary Lane Hospital Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Continuing Education Program has released its schedule of classes to be held in 2012.

According to Mark Tuttle, nurse manager of the hospital’s emergency room, “our 2012 training program provides EMTs in our communities with the EMS continuing education credits necessary to maintain their EMT license. In additional, these classes are offered by Baystate Mary Lane Hospital physicians who look forward to meeting with EMS providers monthly to not only offer education but strengthen the bond of community service that is a the root of emergency medicine in our community.”

Classes are held on the fourth Wednesday of every month, unless otherwise noted, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the hospital’s Main Conference Room. Refreshments are served. The 2012 schedule is as follows:

• Jan. 25: Advanced Toxicology, Dr. Morris Leibowitz, BMLH Emergency Department.

• Feb. 22: Abdominal Trauma, Dr. Matthew Brackman, BMP Mary Lane Surgery.

• v 28: Pre-Hospital Treatment of Acute MI, Dr. Mark Peterman, Baystate Medical Center

• April 25: M&M Rounds, Dr. Richard Gerstein and Dr. Roger Lafleur, BMLH Emergency Department.

• May 23: Medical Terminology/Cases, Dr. Jeff Gutterman, BMLH Emergency Department.

• June 27: Respiratory Failure, Causes and Treatment in the Field, Dr. Paul Gerstein, BMLH Emergency Department.

• July 25: M&M Rounds, Dr. Richard Gerstein and Dr. Roger Lafleur, BMLH Emergency Department.

• Aug. 22: Pediatric Emergencies, Dr. Scott Siege, BMP Mary Lane Pediatrics.

• Sept. 26: M&M Rounds, Dr. Richard Gerstein and Dr. Roger Lafleur, BMLH Emergency Department.

• Oct. 24: Managing Motor Vehicle Trauma, Dr. David Miller, BMLH Emergency Department.

• Nov. 28: Head Injuries and Student Athletes, Dr. Richard Romano, BMLH Emergency Department.

• Dec. 19: M&M Rounds, Dr. Richard Gerstein and Dr. Roger Lafleur, BMLH Emergency Department.

These accredited educational opportunities are offered free of charge as part of Baystate Mary Lane’s ongoing commitment to local emergency medical providers and the community both organizations serve.
