SPRINGFIELD — The love of golf and the desire to help children brought together some 232 area golfers at Crestview Country Club in Agawam and The Ranch Golf Club in Southwick on July 31, during the 3rd Annual Max Classic Golf Tournament in support of Baystate Children’s Hospital.Played in memory of Bill Sadowsky, who was the founder of Williams Distributing Corp. in Chicopee and a founding member of Crestview Country Club, the tournament, which is sponsored by Max’s Tavern in Springfield, raised $150,000 in support of the Baystate Children’s Asthma Program.
“We were happy to meet our goal and delighted with another successful year of raising funds for such an important program which affects so many children in the area,” said Ron Sadowsky, vice president of Williams Distributing Corp. “We look forward to an even greater year in 2007 and thank all of the area businesses who very generously supported the tournament.”
Nearly $400,000 has been raised since the inception of the tournament for Baystate Children’s Hospital.
“The funds raised from last year’s Max Classic Golf Tournament are having a great impact on the thousands of children who suffer from asthma in our area,” said Dr. Edward O. Reiter, chairman of Pediatrics at Baystate Children’s Hospital.
Asthma is the single most prevalent chronic illness in children in the Springfield area, with over 1,000 children visiting Baystate’s Emergency Department with asthma attacks in 2004. With the help of funds raised during the annual golf tournament, Baystate Children’s Hospital is able to provide aggressive treatment, sustained care, and the constant monitoring that can help prevent severe attacks.
