Plastic Surgeon to Discuss Surgical Management of Facial Skin Cancers
NORTHAMPTON — Skin cancer, the most common type of cancer in the U.S. today, occurs most frequently on the face. For many, concerns about appearance compound the difficult emotions that any cancer diagnosis brings.
Plastic surgeon Dr. Helen Perakis will offer answers and insights around these concerns in “Saving Face: Surgical Management of Facial Skin Cancers” on Wednesday, March 30 at 6 p.m. in the Dakin Conference Room at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.
Attendees at this free community lecture will learn about risks, types, diagnosis, and treatment of facial skin cancers, including cutting-edge removal and reconstruction techniques that can help restore a patient’s confidence and sense of self.
Perakis earned her medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine and completed a plastic and reconstructive surgery residency at the University of Minnesota. She is a surgeon with Cooley Dickinson Medical Group Plastic Surgery in Florence. She is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology.
