Smith, Named Chief Medical Officer at Providence Behavioral Health Hospital

SPRINGFIELD — Les W. Smith, M.D. has been appointed to the position of chief medical officer at Providence Behavioral Health Hospital in Holyoke.
The appointment is effective immediately.

Smith started his tenure at Providence Behavioral Health Hospital as the associate medical director of Adult Psychiatric Services in January 2001. Previously, he served as the chief of Psychiatry at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Stafford Springs, Conn. He is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry.

A graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington, and the University of Texas Medical Branch, Smith served his residency in Psychiatry at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas. He is board certified in Psychiatry and has subspecialty boards in Addiction Psychiatry.

(SPHS) “He has done an outstanding job since stepping up to fill the post on an interim basis, so the transition will be seamless.”

Providence Behavioral Health Hospital offers inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services and alcohol and drug treatment programs for children, adolescents and adults.
