Springfield Dementia Friendly Coalition Unveils ‘Remember Us’ Quilt in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield Dementia Friendly Coalition’s “Remember Us” quilt, unveiled on June 10 at the Raymond A. Jordan Senior Center, 1476 Roosevelt Ave., Springfield, is dedicated to creating awareness around Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. In Massachusetts, 11.3% of adults over age 65 are living with dementia.

In 2019, Springfield became the first city in the U.S. to achieve the Age Friendly, Dementia Friendly, and Health System Friendly designations. The ‘Remember Us’ quilt is an artistic way of bringing dementia awareness to the forefront. The quilt was designed by residents who wanted to acknowledge those with a diagnosis of dementia, and also includes organizations’ and businesses’ recognition of the impact of dementia in their communities.

The mission of the Springfield Dementia Friendly Coalition, established in 2018, is to work as a coalition of many organizations in Springfield and surrounding areas, by joining members together to provide education and awareness about dementia.
