Square One To Transform Outdoor Play Space into Pumpkin Farm

SPRINGFIELD — With support from Springfield Business Improvement District, the Apple Place, the Springfield Thunderbirds, and Square One volunteers, the front lawn of Square One’s King Street location will be covered in pumpkins, hay bales, and corn stalks on Wednesday, Oct. 27 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Children will also have a chance to test their hockey shooting skills thanks to the Thunderbirds and their mascot, Boomer.

“This has become a fun tradition for our Square One children and our staff,” said Kristine Allard, vice president of Development & Communication at Square One. “A few years ago, we realized that the expense of transporting the children to local farms was out of reach for us, so we gathered a group of donors and volunteers and created our own farm. Now, we look forward to this special day every year.”

In addition to the children at the King Street location, children served at Square One’s other centers, and those who attend Square One’s Family Child Care program, will also receive pumpkins.
